bmx 01

February 2, 2011 : BMX 01 is chosen by the DGA

The BMX 01 is the concept vehicle proposed by Renault Trucks Defense (RTD) as the successor to the VAB (Armored Forward Vehicle) as part of an upstream study contract started in June 2010. Today developed by GME ARQUUS, NEXTER and THALES, the GRIFFON draws its inspiration from the BMX 01 developed by RTD and tested by the DGA between 2011 and 2014.

The VAB, the French army's flagship vehicle, was not destined to last forever. As part of its replacement plan, RTD brought out the BMX 01 from its design office. After receiving an upstream study contract to present a demonstrator for the replacement of the VAB, it was selected by the DGA on February 2, 2011 from 11 different proposals.

In the logic of performance and cost management of the army, the DGA announced in its call for applications on December 20, 2013 that the VAB will be replaced by the VBMR (Armored Multi-Role Vehicle).

The architecture of the VBMR GRIFFON is directly inspired by this work.
